Brandy's Trip Inspection at Ken's Auto Center in San DiegoPosted July 12, 2026 1:24 PM
Hi, it's Brandy, and you know San Diego area drivers and their dogs love their vehicles. And one of the most enjoyable things about them is taking a road trip. Freedom from daily schedules, new sights and the open road – it's great! But there's nothing like vehicle trouble to bring the fun to a grinding halt. Today I will bark about getting your vehicle ready for a road trip because dogs love trips and you wouldn't want to disappoint us now. So let's get barkin' and get this show on the road!!!! Prepared with answers to these questions, you can schedule a trip inspection at Ken's Auto Center in San Diego to help you prepare your vehicle for your big adventure. Many of our San Diego customers prefer to go through this exercise with their friendly, knowledgeable service advisor to get their input and ensure they haven't overlooked anything. Shocks and struts play a major role in both driving comfort and safety. If they need to be replaced, you'll really be glad you did once you hit the road. Is it time for a wheel alignment? Fighting a car that's pulling to one side all day can be tiring and dangerous. And don't forget your brakes. Any strange noises, grabbing, soft or hard pedal feel? If there is any doubt, get a brake inspection at Ken's Auto Center in San Diego before you leave. Moving under the hood, have a belts-and-hoses inspection. If something is excessively worn or near failure, the stress of a long road trip might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Talk to your service advisor at Ken's Auto Center. Do you notice any unusual odors in your vehicle? If so, it could be as harmless as a dirty cabin air filter. But if it's an exhaust leak, it could be fatal for San Diego drivers and their passengers on a long trip. Of course, you'll want to be comfortable, so get an air conditioning service if you aren't getting the cold air you’re used to. Are your wiper blades still working well? If not, that is a quick and inexpensive fix for San Diego drivers. Headlamps are often overlooked when planning for a trip. If you haven't changed the bulb in six months or so, replacement bulbs will really light up the night on your trip and provide the necessary after-sundown visibility. All the items mentioned are part of any good vehicle maintenance plan. These are things that you want to take care of anyway, but they all become more important as you plan for your trip. BRANDY
Ken's Auto Center Sounds Exhausting! (Exhaust Service)Posted July 5, 2026 1:44 PMMost of us know a bad muffler when we hear it. That loud, rumbling sound is unmistakable. Did you also know you can get a ticket for driving around with a loud exhaust system? If your exhaust system has a leak in it, it may be allowing poisonous gases inside your vehicle and could make you seriously ill (or even kill you!) if you breathe too much in. Unfortunately, your exhaust system faces a lot of destructive forces out on the road. Rust is the worst, and not just in colder climates where they use salt and brine as de-icers. Exhaust systems can rust from the inside out when moisture condenses inside the pipes. Vibrations and jolts from rough roads (and the occasional run in with a rock or a curb) can wreak havoc with exhaust systems. Even a bad oxygen sensor can send too much fuel into the catalytic converter, and the resulting heat can wind up destroying this very expensive component. Your exhaust system is made up of several parts, and all need to be in good shape in order for you to be sure that the gases created by your engine's combustion get properly moved out and away from the vehicle. The good news is that many newer exhaust systems are made out of more durable materials like stainless steel. But all exhaust systems are subjected to some of the roughest elements streets can dish out. So it's a good idea to have your exhaust system periodically inspected and serviced. There are a lot of parts to keep track of in an exhaust system, including the muffler, manifold, catalytic convertor, oxygen sensors and the muffler (or maybe your vehicle has more than one). We strongly recommend having your exhaust system periodically checked so we can catch a problem before it turns into something major… and maybe dangerous. We can recommend repair or replacement that suits your driving habits and budget. Oh, and remember one final benefit to a tip-top-shape exhaust system. Your vehicle will dump far less pollution into the atmosphere if it's working the way engineers designed it. We'll all breathe a little easier when our exhaust systems are doing their job right.
